Surfing Tasmania
One of the best things about surfing in Tasmania is that you
don't have to travel great distances in order to catch a great
wave!
Close to Tasmania's capital city Hobart, you will find Park
Beach and Clifton Beach, which are favourite spots for the locals.
Tassie's sunny east coast from Orford to
Bicheno also offer different and fanstastic surfing opportunities,
whilst Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula near Port Arthur
usually provides great surfing all year round.
South of Hobart on Bruny Island you will find Cloudy Bay, which
faces the Southern Ocean and typically offers really big breaks;
as does South Cape Bay which can be accessed from Cockle
Creek. Surfers must carry carry their boards and equipment across
a 7 kilometre bushwalk through a World Heritage
Area to reach this must sought after south coast surfing beach.
On the north coast, Bass Strait generates waves at a number
of excellent beaches including Tam O’Shanter north-east
of Launceston and the Mersey Mouth at Devonport. On the west
coast, Marrawah’s big Southern Ocean massive swells challenge the very best big
